| RCA
Endorses Call for Task Force on Governance |
| To the editor: |
| Responding to your "Close to Home" column of Dec. 21 ("ResTown
Project Thrown Off Track," I would like readers to know of
the recommendation which the Fairfax County Federation of
Citizens Associations will make to the northern Virginia delegation
to the General Assembly on Jan. 5. |
| The recommendation calls for a task force that includes
all the stakeholders. The task force will examine the Reston
town incorporation options and suggest the way forward. The
implementation of this task force will accomplish the goals, mentioned
in your newspaper, of involving all relevant parties and ensuring complete information
exchange. |
| The Reston Citizens Association is pleased that Reston Association,
the Alliance for Reston Clusters and Homeowners and Reston
Community Center, responding to Del. Ken Plum and Sen. Janet
Howell, called for more information rather than opposing Reston
self-determination. In my view this shows a laudable, public-spirited
perspective rather than a narrow perspective of organizational
self-interest. |
| RCA believes that when all parties buckle down to the details,
as we hope they will, they will discover that everything they
have heard RCA say in hearings, forums, town meetings, workshops
and in the press has been based on RCA's proposed charter,
grounded in the 1980 charter. This charter in turn was the
result of extensive negotiations between the legislature,
the county and Reston stakeholders in the late 1970s. Much
has changed since then, though not the need for Reston to
preserve its character as a planned community. We look forward
to working together. |
