Girls Lacrosse Falls to Chantilly, Bounces Back Against Centreville
The Herndon High School girls lacrosse team came out fired up against No. 1 ranked Chantilly on April 23, knowing that a victory could put them at the top of the Concorde District standings. Early goals by Allie Aroesty, Liz Mann (three goals) and Jamie Skrocki (two goals) kept the Hornets close for most of the first half. But Chantilly's speed and passing eventually wore down the Hornets as the Chargers went on a 12-4 run in the second half to secure a 21-9 victory. Lesley Buckingham, Jenny Davis and Jessica Singer each found the net for the Hornets in the second half.
The following night the Lady Hornets faced Centreville, another Concorde District rival, and they did not waste any time in taking out their frustration on the team. The Hornets were led by seniors Buckingham (six goals), Lauren Binzer (one goal), Emily Baumgartner (one goal), Kelsey Corbin and Sara Valcourt. Davis (two goals, one assist) opened the scoring with a goal less than one minute into the game and the Lady Hornets never looked back. Mann (two goals, one assist), Singer (two goals, one assist) and Allie Aroesty also torched the Wildcats for scores as the Hornets built an 11-1 halftime lead and coasted to their third Concorde District victory of the season.
The Lady Hornets close out their regular season against Liberty District leader Stone Bridge (10-1) and were scheduled to begin Concorde District tournament play on Thursday.
