| Hydrilla Treatment to Close Lake Audubon |
| On July 28, Lake Audubon will be treated with an herbicide to control an invasive exotic plant called hydrilla, which has been present in the lake for the past 14 years and has become a detriment due to excessive growth during the 2007 season. The treatment will necessitate the closing of the lake from July 28 to 29. Hydrilla is a submerged aquatic weed that grows from 1 to 3 inches per day and its dense stands of vegetation cause difficulty for boating and fishing. In addition, hydrilla crowds out and replaces native aquatic vegetation. In an attempt to control the lake biologically, Reston Association has occasionally stocked the lake with grass-eating carp. However, despite the proactive effort along with past herbicide treatements, hydrilla has spread significantly across the lake. The entire lake will not be treated because it is beneficial to have some vegetation (about 20 percent) present in the deeper portions of the lake. The treatment will be conducted by Aquatic Environment Consultants, a firm licensed through the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services as a certified herbicide applicator. AEC has been monitoring Reston's lakes for the past 10 years. A follow-up survey will be conducted later in the summer. Results of the survey will be used to determine future management recommendations. |

| RCC Host IPAR Discussions |
| The Reston Community Center will host an open roundtable session with the Initiative for Public Art - Reston on Tuesday evening, July 29, at 7 p.m. in the Jo Ann Rose Gallery of RCC Lake Anne for community members who have not been able to participate in earlier focus group meetings and events. "This is an opportunity for IPAR to gather more community input which is key to the success of our effort to create a master plan that really reflects Reston's aspirations," said IPAR President Joe Ritchey. The roundtable will begin with a presentation by Todd Bressi and Meridith McKinley, followed by a facilitated discussion during which attendees can share their thoughts on the role that public art can play in the future of Reston. People who cannot attend the event but who wish to offer their thoughts on the master plan should complete the electronic survey on the IPAR Web site at www.publicartreston.com. Hard copies of the survey are also available at the RCC Lake Anne. The consulting team of Bressi and McKinley has been working with IPAR since February to develop a master plan for new public art projects in Reston. As part of this process, IPAR has organized several roundtable discussions, a community forum and the Imagine Art Here! Charrette, which was held at RCC Hunters Woods. Community input is sought regarding places in Reston where public art can be located, types of public art that people would like to see and how people engage with public art.
