Beginning Sunday the Fairfax Connector will be adding additional trips, adjusting schedules, creating a new route and consolidating 10 bus stops in an effort to better serve passenger needs and improve the on-time performance of existing routes in the Reston, Herndon and Fairfax areas.
The affected routes include 401, 621, 622, 623, 950 and the addition of route 402. Ten bus stops are being consolidated and most are along Elden Street on route 950 in Herndon.
The existing northbound 401 route will remain the same but the southbound route along 401 will be called 402. Service during the peak hours on weekdays along the routes will be increased to 15 minutes while off-peak service will occur every 30 minutes. There will be additional early morning and late trips. Service on weekdays will extend do the Tysons West*Park Transit Station. On routes 621, 622 and 623 a schedule adjustment was made to all three routes. Additional morning and afternoon trips were added to 622 and 623 and routes 621 and 622 will now include service along Fields Brigade Road and Meadow Field Drive off of Monument Drive. On HerndonŐs route 950 service will be increased to allow for 15-minute headways along the entire route from 5:30 to 9 a.m. and from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Earlier morning and later evening trips will be added to the schedule.
Additionally some stops have been consolidated or removed. Those removed include Elden Street east of Carlisle drive, Elden Street east of Grant Street, Elden Street west of Herndon Parkway and Elden Street east of Herndon Parkway.
Those being consolidated include Elden Street west of Laurel Way, which will now be east of Laurel Way, Elden Street west of Jonquill Lane, which will now be east of Jonquill Lane, Elden Street west of Post Drive, which will be further west on Post Drive, and the intersection of Alabama Drive and Florida Avenue, which will be moved to Alabama Drive and Pickett Street.
