Council Has Earned Re-Election
To the editor:
Over the past couple of weeks, many letters to the editor have vilified the current mayor and Town Council, without noting their accomplishments of the last two years. These attacks encourage the continuing divisiveness this town experiences.
I would like to remind readers of just some of this council's accomplishments. They have controlled spending by not increasing 2007-2008 tax rates and operating budget. Overcrowding cases have been reduced. They have planned for Herndon's future by creating strategic plans for the police department, capital works, and parks and recreation, among many other plans.
The Herndon Police have been operating under the federal 287(g) program, allowing them to detain for deportation undocumented immigrants.
I feel the town has benefited from the hard work and dedication of this mayor and Town Council, and they have earned my vote for re-election. I would encourage everyone to do their homework in preparing for the upcoming election, and not cast their votes based only on what they read in the letters to the editor.
