Writer Could Learn from Past Officials
To the editor:
With reference to Phil Jones' letter ("Former Officials Should Set Example," The Observer March 28) chastising several of our former elected officials for slinging mud, I can only assume that he subscribes to the "do as I say, not as I do" school of thought.
One need only look through the archived letters to the editor of this paper or review the tapes of public hearings to see that Mr. Jones apparently believes his "rules of behavior" apply only to others.
I have never read anything written by Mr. Jones that has had anything good to say about Herndon. At one time he even wrote that "citizens are being murdered on our streets." If he feels Herndon is such a bad place, why did he move here?
A bit of advice for Mr. Jones: Why not or do write something positive for a change? Surely he could find a few things.
Former mayors Rick Thoesen and Carol Bruce and former Vice Mayor John DeNoyer all have decades-long records of service to our community. You could learn from their example.
